Book review: A Conversation With God

I have often wondered what it would be like to acually hear God speak to me. How awesome that would be.  Wondering that is what attracted me to the book, "A Conversation With God: If you Could Ask God Any Question What Would It Be?"  by Alton Gansky.   The author poses 55 questions covering various topics geared for today's audience using God, Jesus, Paul, Peter, and other Bible characters to answer them.  It's written as if the reader is asking the questions which makes this book a particularly interesting read.  Some of the questions would, perhaps, be ones asked in today's world such as "What should our political roll be?", "Does choice extend to abortion?" and "God, do you love homosexuals?", while other questions cover any period.  Examples of those are "How do we know the Bible is accurate?", "Why is there so much suffering?", and "Can I lose my salvation?"

The book is very easy to read and the chapters are short enough-2 to 3 pages, give or take, so that the reader can easily read one or two at a time and not feel overwhelmed. Also, the reader can select any part of the book without feeling the need to start at the beginning and read through to the end.  You are free to select any question you like without feeling that you are missing anything.

I found the book not only held my interest but addressed some questions I hadn't thought of as well as ones I had. It is a well put together book with glossy heavy-weight paper and would easily qualify as a gift.  Overall, I liked the book very much.  There was only one aspect that disappointed me. In most books, there is a bit about the author included, often on the back cover but, in this case, I found nothing at all about the author.  That doesn't take away from the book, itself, of course, but the reader my be interested in knowing something about the author such as where he/she lives, if he/she is married and has children, etc. I know I am. I always look for a bit about the author of the books I read.  Would I reccommend this book?  Yes, definitely.

I was given this book by the publisher through a review program and was not required to write a favorable review.  I was only asked that I be honest.

My first blog-March 10, 2011

I have never done blogging before so, please bear with me.  This is totally new and I'm really nervous about doing this! So, whoever might see this, please don't laugh, okay?  I really don't know what I'm doing.  I set this up so I can review books since I love to read and I hope it works.
